How To Make Money As A Nutritionist

If you’re like most nutritionists I know, you’re probably curious about how you’re going to make a full-time income in your nutrition business.

The good news about starting your own nutrition business is that there are a variety of ways you can make money, both online and offline.

The opportunities to grow your business and make money are endless, which means that you can think outside the box of just offering one-on-one nutrition consultations and grow your business in a way that works for you.

You can make a good full-time income running your own nutrition business.

So how can you make money as a nutritionist? Let’s explore how you’re going to do it.

How To Get Clients For Your Nutrition Business

One of the most common questions that I receive from Nutritionists wanting to grow their business and make more money is “how do I get more consistent nutrition clients?”

They want to be spending their time and effort in the right places but feel overwhelmed with where to get started.

Let’s break down some of the ways you can attract nutrition clients to your business.

Social Media

Whether it’s Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn or YouTube, pick a social media platform and start sharing valuable information about your niche and how you can help.

Social media is also a great way to build your community and give your audience a little bit of insight into who you are! Remember to be helpful and consistently share how people can join your community (aka your email list) and work with you inside your nutrition programs.

Workshops

Love teaching and interacting with groups of people? Running online or in-person workshops can be a great way to grow your audience and your confidence.

Workshops give you a chance to share your knowledge on a specific topic, grow your email list, and follow up with workshop participants with more information on how to work together.

Nutrition Challenges

Running a free or paid nutrition challenge is a great way to get your audience engaged and show them how to make small, manageable changes to their health.

Another benefit of running a nutrition challenge is that it gives potential clients a sense of how you work as a nutritionist, leading them to trust you as an expert!

Blogging

Creating content through blogging or guest blogging gets more eyes on you and your business, and positions you as an expert in your field.

Blogging also drives traffic to your website and serves as an easy way for potential clients to share your information with family and friends.

Guest Podcasting

Podcasting has become a popular media source with over 500 million listeners worldwide and the average American listening to 8 podcasts every week.

Podcasting helps to put you in front of new audiences fast and is a great way to get your message out there through audio format, meaning that if you’re nervous about going on video, podcasting might be a great fit for you.

Referrals & Collaborations

Word-of-Mouth Marketing, also known as referrals, can be extremely effective for your nutrition business! In fact, I grew my own nutrition business almost solely through referral marketing.

When a past client recommends you, this can create a sense of trust and be a great way for potential clients to learn what it might be like to work with you.

Also, collaborating with other nutrition or health professionals opens the door for cross-promotion of each other’s businesses and the opportunity to refer clients to one another.

Brand Partnerships

Team up with your favourite wellness brand to further establish yourself as an expert. Intentional and authentic brand partnerships can be a valuable tool in your nutrition business!

Profitable Niches for Nutritionists

Sometimes the hardest part about starting and growing your nutrition business is deciding on your niche! You might feel like niching down will limit your clientele and leave some people out.

But I promise you, niching down will make you stand out from the crowd and position you as an expert, attracting more people to you!

Niching down can actually help you make more money in your nutrition business, as you’re able to create solutions for very specific problems.

Here are some examples of profitable niches for your nutrition business:

  • Hormonal health for menstrual issues

  • Gut health and digestion for IBS sufferers

  • Hormonal health for post-birth control support

  • Intuitive eating and food freedom

  • Balanced weight-loss

  • Plant-based and vegan nutrition

  • Blood sugar balancing

  • Skin and acne support

  • Sports nutrition for athletes

Ways To Make Money As A Nutritionist

Now that we’ve talked about how to get clients in your nutrition business and choose your profitable niche, let’s dive into the ways you can make money in your business!

Brand Partnerships

Connect with brands that you love and create paid sponsorship content to share with your community. It’s a good idea to only work with brands you know and love to show up for your audience as authentically as possible.

Another way to make money as a nutritionist is to connect with other nutrition or health professionals for client referrals.

Group Wellness Programs

Offering a group program can be a great way to work with more clients at once at a lower price point than one-on-one nutrition coaching.

This means that you will save time by working with more people in a shorter time frame, but have the opportunity to make a larger income.

Meal Planning or Other Subscription Services

Try out a meal-planning platform like That Clean Life to create beautiful meal plans for your clients or create a monthly meal-planning subscription as a way to bring in consistent monthly income.

Online Courses

Creating an online course on a specific nutrition topic allows you to create a resource once and then sell it passively over and over for years to come.

You can set it up so that your course is always available for purchase, or you can do small “launches” of your online course periodically to bring in more income during a specific timeframe.

Online programs and courses are commonly priced around the $200-$400 price point, depending on what is included and what niche you are targeting.

Online or In-person Workshops

Workshops are a great way to support your audience and allow them to learn more about you and your business more affordably.

They’re also a great way for you to showcase your services and drive people to work with you by offering an exclusive discount for those who attend your workshop.

Digital Products

A great way to make passive income is to create pre-made meal plans, nutrition guides, journals and e-books to sell on your website for a lower price point.

It’s common to see pre-made meal plans or guides sold anywhere from $20-$40, depending on what is included.

Selling Supplements

Use an online supplement platform like FullScript to make a small commission on any supplement purchases that your clients or community make.

You could also contact your favourite supplement brands directly to see if they have affiliate programs or can buy the supplements wholesale.

Signature Nutrition Programs

Creating a signature nutrition program as opposed to offering one-off nutrition sessions can put you in a great position to make more consistent and sustainable income in your nutrition business.

Signature programs are commonly priced over $1000, depending what is included, the length of the program, and the niche you are targeting.
