24 Nutrition Business Ideas for 2024

22 nutrition business ideas for 2022

It’s a new year and you’re ready to grow your nutrition business, but you’re wondering what exactly you can do with your nutrition education that is outside the box from 1-1 consulting.

If you’re looking for relevant nutrition business ideas for 2024, you’re in the right spot.

There are so many business opportunities in nutrition and wellness that allow you to share what you love, whether that’s teaching nutrition education, cooking or meal planning, writing or speaking, working with brands, and so much more.

As the wellness industry continues to grow year after year, there are never-ending possibilities with what you can to stand out from the crowd!

  1. Blogging

As more and more people choose to build a sustainable business off of social media, in comes blogging! Having a blog on your website means that you have the ability to bring more traffic to your website every time you create new content.

How are you going to do this? By focusing on search engine optimization (SEO) and keywords every time you write a blog post. Check out Ubersuggest to search for keywords to use in your next post.

Start out by choosing a realistic schedule to post on your blog and build up from there. If this means writing one post per month, go all in on that post and make it great!

Bonus points: You can also reuse the content in your blog posts for social media content, email content and more.

2. Wellness Writing

If you enjoy writing, there are lots of nutrition business opportunities to use your skill and become a wellness writer.

Some ideas for how to start writing are to connect with a wellness brand to contribute a guest post for their blog, ghostwrite for another nutritionist or become a nutrition researcher.

Another idea would be to promote your writing services on a platform like Fiverr, Upwork or Indeed.

3. Start a Podcast

There’s no time like the present to jump on board and start a podcast!

Podcasts are a great business idea for nutritionists looking to build authority with their audience, teach on a variety of subjects that they are educated on, and tell their audience the next steps they can take to work with them.

All you need to get started is a microphone, a platform to record your episodes, a platform to host your podcast, and a quiet spot to record!

Bonus points: Transcribe your podcast episodes and add them as a blog post on your website!

Listen to this podcast episode with Intuitive Eating and Body Image Coach Rachel Molenda on how to start your own podcast.

4. Launch an online program

Launching an online program might feel overwhelming, but if this is the direction you want to take your nutrition business, it’s never been easier to create an online program or course with platforms like Teachable and Thinkific!

Come up with an outline for your program, create some slides for your lessons, decide if you’ll teach on or off camera, input all of your content into your online program platform, and you’re ready to market and sell your program!

Quick tip: Don’t forget that even though you’ve created a “passive” program, you still need to talk about it consistently with your audience so they know if it’s a right fit for them.

5. Group coaching program

If you’ve started your nutrition business, but you find that you’re repeating yourself in your 1-1 nutrition consultations?

If you said yes, you might be ready for a group coaching program! A group program allows you to work with multiple people at once, usually for a lower cost than your more personalized, 1-1 service.

Decide on the overall topic for your group, break it into lessons, decide how you’ll host it (a private FB group or Practice Better works!), come up with your start and end dates and how much it will cost.

You can even run a “beta test” round where you are testing out the program content and offering your first round of clients a discount or bonus to be involved.

6. Corporate Wellness Workshops

One way you can use your nutrition education is by teaching corporate wellness workshops or lunch and learns. You can run your corporate wellness workshop online, in person or both!

Make sure to keep your corporate wellness workshop engaging and use a call-to-action at the end to tell each participant what next steps they need to take and how they can work with you further.

7. Online Wellness retreats

If running an in-person wellness retreat isn’t an option, take things online and run a one-day nutrition retreat on Zoom!

Come up with an agenda for the day, invite guest speakers or experts like a nutritionist who specializes in a different niche then you, a yoga teacher, or another health practitioner that can share a different perspective, and then promote a limited amount of spots for your retreat.

You might want to still consider keeping it smaller and intimate to imitate that in-person retreat vibe, but it’s totally up to you!

8. Work with a wellness brand

There are so many different ways you can work with a wellness brand, especially in the social media and influencer space in 2024!

Consider connecting with a brand and promoting some of their products, running a giveaway with them, creating content or writing a blog post for them, doing a takeover on their social media - the sky’s the limit!

To get the ball rolling with collaborating with a wellness brand, reach out to them and let them know how you’re a fan of their brand, tell them a bit about your business and inform them how partnering with them will help their brand.

Read this blog post to get a step-by-step roadmap on how to pitch to brands as a Nutritionist!

9. Create a meal planning subscription

Make your clients lives easier by giving them the opportunity to get access to weekly or monthly meal plans, delivered right to their inbox!

Use a meal planning platform like That Clean Life or Meal Garden to easily create delicious meal plans, shopping lists and recipe bundles that you can use in your meal planning subscription.

10. Create a wellness product

The wellness product space is steadily growing, and now’s the time for you to use your nutrition and wellness education to create a product that will positively help your clients’ lives.

A few business ideas for a wellness product you can create are a green beauty product, wellness tea, natural supplement, clothing line, candles, wellness journal or workbook - just to start!

Looking for some ideas on wellness-related products that you could create? Check out Well.ca or Thrive Market to see what products are trending.

11. Sell ebooks

A great way to share your nutrition education in an affordable way is by creating an ebook on a specific topic like hormones, gut health or whatever might be specific and relatable to your nutrition niche.

Inside your ebook you can share nutrition tips and recommendations, links to your favourite wellness products and brands, a meal plan or collection of recipes, and any resources that you think would be helpful.

My recommendation is to keep your ebook between $20-$40 to keep it as an accessible first way for people to work with you.

12. Self-publish a book on Amazon

Has it been on your bucket list to write a book? Your dream might be closer than you think! A quick and easy way to write a book is to self-publish one on Amazon.

Go full out and write a whole book, repurpose your ebook, or even think outside the box and self-publish your own cookbook!

Listen to this podcast episode with Registered Dietician Amy Hager where she shares how she self-published her own book on Amazon called “Nutritionist in Private Practice”.

13. Create a supplement dispensary on Fullscript

Find yourself recommending certain supplements to friends, family and clients? Create a supplement dispensary on Fullscript and start earning commission right away!

Choose a few of your favourite, most recommended supplements and add them to your dispensary, and now you have a handy list to share next time you make a recommendation.

Did you know that you can also offer a supplement discount on each purchase through Fullscript? Learn more about it here.

14. Create a software to support other nutritionists

Have a knack for creating meal plans, writing client recommendations, creating nutrition handouts or organizing your client sessions?

Perhaps there’s a nutrition business opportunity for you to create a software or platform that can help out your fellow nutritionists!

Your nutrition colleagues are always looking for an easier way to streamline their practice and make working with clients easier - so if you have an idea for something that could make their lives easier, put your ideas down on paper and start the brainstorming process.

My favourite examples of other nutritionists and coaches who have created a software to help out their fellow wellness practitioners are That Clean Life and Practice Better. Talk about thinking outside the box!

15. Start a membership

Memberships are gaining traction and proving to be an up and coming way to provide nutrition education and support for your community in an affordable way!

Decide what you’ll offer inside your membership, where the content will be hosted, how you’ll communicate with your community, and how much you’ll price your monthly membership at.

16. Run a live challenge then use it as a lead magnet

A great way to bring in more leads and potentially sign new nutrition clients is by running a free nutrition challenge!

Want to learn the step by step way to run your challenge? Listen to this podcast episode with Practice Better!

Once you’ve run your live nutrition challenge, repurpose the trainings into a new lead magnet!

What you’ll do is set up an email sequence with a new challenge email going out each day, and then at the end of challenge you will tell your subscriber what next step they can take to work with you.

17. Meal prepping or delivery service

Love to cook and want to make your clients lives easier? Consider starting a meal prepping or meal delivery service!

Offer to go into your client’s home and prep healthy, delicious meals for them or rent a commercial kitchen and make a batch of meals to deliver to your customers!

Consider partnering with another nutritionist for this project so you can split the workload, or consider bringing on a nutrition student or intern to support you with your meal prepping or delivery service.

18. Use Pinterest and try out Pinterest ads

One social media platform that doesn’t get as much attention as it should when growing your nutrition business is Pinterest! Pinterest is a great platform for re-sharing your nutrition blogs, podcast episodes, YouTube videos or meal plans/recipes.

When someone clicks on your Pinterest pin, it will redirect them to your website, which gives you more opportunity to create more traffic and possibly sign more clients!

Interested in running ads this year? Consider Pinterest ads over Facebook ads, as generally the ad cost is lower and less competitive over on Pinterest.

Learn more about how to use Pinterest in your nutrition business in this podcast episode with Simple Pin Media.

19. Run an online cooking class

If you love cooking and running workshops, why not try an online cooking class! Share your culinary skills and have your audience cook along with you or do more of a “show and tell” style cooking class.

By taking your cooking class online, you can reach a whole new audience and can even make it fun by asking people to bring a friend or position it as a fun “night out” activity!

Want to learn how to run a profitable, online cooking class? Listen to this podcast episode with Cynthia from Cooking Class Business School.

20. Create a health food product

Health food products are on the rise with new businesses popping up everywhere, selling everything from kombucha to superfood powders and  mushroom coffee to sugar-free gummies.

If you have an idea for a new and upcoming food product or have mastered a recipe, creating a health food product might be your next venture!

To get your creative juices flowing, look into some of the health food brands you admire and read their story about how they first got started.

Also, there’s always Shark Tank or Dragon’s Den to spark that creativity and help you keep on the pulse of what’s trending.

21. Create a wellness app

Have an idea for an app that would make your clients’ lives (or even your fellow wellness practitioners’ lives) better? Why not consider partnering with a software designer or developer to start a wellness app as your new business venture!

There are endless app ideas out there, such as:

  • Meal planning app

  • Macro tracker

  • Wellness journal app

  • Daily meditation app

  • Yoga or movement app

  • Sleep monitoring app

  • Client check-in app

Curious of the first steps you need to take to start your app? Read this article from Entrepreneur.com.

22. Contribute to HARO

Looking for a way to get your name out there quickly? Consider signing up as a source on HARO.

Haro stands for “help a reporter out” and is a website that matches reporters or media outlets with sources to answer questions or give their point of view on a topic.

How does this work? Sign up as a source for free at HARO, set your categories for which topics you feel confident speaking on, watch your email inbox 3 times a day and respond to any inquiries that feel like a fit for you!

23. Create an offer under $100

As a way to show people what it’s like to work with you as a Nutritionist, create a lower-priced “no-brainer” offering under $100 that is easy for someone to say yes to!

Ideas for a low-priced offer are a pre-recorded workshop, workshop series, nutrition challenge, nutrition guide, meal plan/recipe bundle, or mini-nutrition session.

24. Start a YouTube Channel

Starting a Youtube channel is a great way to build authority with your audience, teach on a variety of subjects that you’re educated on, and tell your audience the next steps they can take to work with you.

All you need to get started is a way to record yourself (your computer camera or smartphone!), a professional microphone, and an editing software (I love Descript for this!)

Bonus points: Turn your YouTube video into a podcast episode, blog post, or email content!
