Sisley from The Pure Life

“Get really good at what you do”

Sisley is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Acne Nutritionist. In her nutrition business, Sisley uses her experiences with hormonal, post-pill, fungal, and stress-related skin problems to help women heal their acne naturally.

Here’s Sisley’s biggest pieces of advice for growing a thriving nutrition business:

  • Get clear with a niche, ideally something that you personally resonate with/have experienced yourself.

  • Start sharing content that's only revolved around that specific niche: shout it from the rooftops! You will reach your niche audience in time. Share on social, host workshops (virtual and in-person), write blog posts, etc.

  • Get really good at what you do: go above and beyond for your clients in the early days so you can become a better practitioner, learn from your clients and build relationships that gain your reader's trust.

  • Once you get really good at what you do, ensure you are charging enough to support your business and have the mental capacity to work 1:1 with your clients.

  • If you need direction or clarity, a business coach or marketing manager can help tons - outsource where you can!

Alex from Nutrition Moderation

“Be authentic - what makes you special is YOU”

Alex is a Certified Holistic Nutritionist and Women’s Health Practitioner. Using her own experience with hormones and endometriosis, Alex now helps women recover from endometriosis, PCOS & hormone imbalance post-birth control.

Here’s Alex’s biggest pieces of advice for growing a thriving nutrition business:

  • Pick a platform & post regularly - whether that's Instagram, TikTok, blogging, podcasting, etc. Not only is this great exposure but it also helps you establish credibility.

  • Give out amazing information for free - it may sound counterintuitive but if you're giving out great information people will want to work with you.

  • Make connections with other businesses & practitioners - not only is it great to have a referral network but also good to lean on people when you have questions.

  • Say yes to things outside of your comfort zone - conducting a corporate wellness program, being a guest on a podcast, hosting a retreat, partnering with a gym, and so on.

  • Be authentic - there are probably a handful of other practitioners with your niche but what makes you special is YOU.

  • Work with a business coach - if someone can take what they've learned over the years and condense it to help you grow faster with fewer headaches & frustrations, it's always worth it.

Amy Longard from Amy Longard Nutrition

“Don’t go at it alone!”

Amy is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist specializing in plant-based food and nutrition. In her nutrition business, Amy shines a light on the power of plant-based eating to heal our bodies and the planet, and educates people to help them become more conscious and connected to their food choices, while reducing their carbon footprint.

Here’s Amy’s biggest pieces of advice for growing a thriving nutrition business:

  • Don't go at it alone! Many nutritionists are self-employed and can end up working in isolation. Reach out to local health food stores, health-related companies or like-minded businesses for collaborations and partnerships to help establish yourself in the community.

  • Say yes to all opportunities... at first! This helps expose you to the many possibilities and areas of growth for your business.

  • Find your niche. There are so many nutritionists out there, but despite that, there's not as much competition as you think. We each offer our own strengths that make us unique.

Brittany from Holistic Britt Nutrition

“Consistency is key”

Brittany is a Bachelor of science degree holder, personal trainer, and Registered Holistic Nutritionist. In her nutrition business, Brittany helps bring the zest back into life by creating lasting healthy habits, supporting stress, and teaching her clients to eat to ease anxiety without fad diets.

Here’s Brittany’s biggest pieces of advice for growing a thriving nutrition business:

  • Like our health journey, what you do consistently matters! Get into a routine of a consistent number of social media posts, blog posts, and emails to your email lists. You don't need to do them every day- but stay consistent with how often you're putting content out there.

  • Repurposing content is really helpful! Have an Instagram post that performed well? Make it into a blog post, and then a shortened version of that to your email list!

  • It's ok to switch your niche up, but try not to do it too often. Maybe you've built a strong foundation for your gut health practice but now want to switch gears to prenatal health - your current audience may not resonate as much with that material.

  • Start before you're ready. You may NEVER feel ready for your first group program, Instagram live, or one-on-one client. The more you do it, the more comfortable you will get. Growth doesn't come from your comfort zone- so push outside of it.

  • Niche down to a topic that you LOVE talking about. Stay consistent in your messaging for that person. Think about your own health journey & what it looked like 5-10 years ago. What would you say to that person at the beginning of that journey? This personal connection is what people need when they're embarking on something big and scary like a wellness journey.

  • My best advice for nutritionists looking to grow their business is to stay consistent.

Amy from Unbridled Holistic Nutrition

“Take care of YOU first and be strict with boundaries from the start”

Amy is a Board Certified Functional Nutritionist, Holistic Hormone Specialist, and Yoga Teacher. Using her past experience with digestive issues, anxiety, fertility issues, and her diagnosis of an autoimmune disorder, Amy helps women recover from burnout and balance hormones naturally to restore energy, moods, and periods.

Here’s Amy’s biggest pieces of advice for growing a thriving nutrition business:

  • Take chances and be fearless – letting go of perfection and allowing yourself to get messy, explore, try new things, and make mistakes.

  • Get into your community – put yourself out there and show up in your community so people feel connected to you.

  • Set boundaries – entrepreneur burnout is a real thing! Take care of YOU first and be strict with boundaries from the start so you can have a focused mind and high creativity.

  • Use cyclical living– if you don't yet practice cycle syncing, you have to start! It's a game changer for productivity and creativity when you learn to shift your business tasks to align WITH your female body's natural cycles.

Krista from Sprout Your Health

“Choose a marketing strategy that you enjoy doing”

Krista is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and SIBO Nutritionist specializing in SIBO, IBS, gut issues, and anxiety. In her nutrition business, Krista helps people recover from their digestive issues by educating them on the critical role nutrition and stress management can play in their health.

Here’s Krista’s biggest pieces of advice for growing a thriving nutrition business:

  • Meet people in person. In-person networking is powerful and in my experience the best way to receive referrals.

  • Get a part-time job in the field (to support your early years) where you can meet potential clients and tell people about your business or demonstrate your knowledge (ie. working in a health foods store, clinic, or supplement company doing demos).

  • Choose a marketing strategy that you enjoy doing instead of having it drain you (ie based on your interests or personality).

  • Work for free at the beginning to get valuable testimonials as well as build your referral network.

  • Work with a coach or complete a program to guide you in the right direction and save you time.

  • Trust in what you have to offer and its value.

  • Mindset: staying consistent is key!

Mia from Mia Giommi

“Get clear on the problems you solve for your people”

Mia is a Functional Nutritionist who specializes in Gut Health & Fatigue. After taking her health back into her own hands, Mia decided to teach women how to heal their gut, skyrocket their energy, and find food freedom.

Here’s Mia’s biggest pieces of advice for growing a thriving nutrition business:

  • Get clear on the problems you solve for your people and create content around it. The more specific here — the better! You want people to be able to identify themselves in your marketing, and think "wow — that sounds just like what I've been going through."

  • Collaborating with practitioners/clinicians/coaches in adjacent or complimentary industries is an incredible way to get in front of new communities, and create unique opportunities for clients. It's also a great way to build trust quickly with people who might be new to you (trust is super important for sales!).

  • It's a great idea to pick at least 2-3 channels where you can market - email marketing, social media (like TikTok or Instagram), long-form content channels like blogging, podcasting or YouTube, Linked In, Pinterest, etc. Also, don't discount in-person marketing opportunities! You never know where your next client might come from.

  • KEEP going. Business is HARD. Keep showing up. Keep consistent as much as possible, in a way that works for you. Take breaks when you need to, and start back up again. If you feel like you need support, seek out mentorship or coaching from someone who's done it themselves. You've got this.
