Nutritionist Spotlight Series: Joanna Brown
Joanna Brown isn’t your average nutritionist! She’s a powerhouse of knowledge, an advocate for mindful eating, and a firm believer in bringing joy back to food and wellness.
As the founder of Rejoice Nutrition & Wellness, Joanna helps clients cut through the noise of diet culture and embrace a balanced, sustainable approach to health.
With a background in community health, culinary nutrition, and mindful eating, she’s on a mission to simplify wellness and help people feel their best, without the guilt or overwhelm.
When she’s not coaching clients, you’ll find her sipping a collagen-infused coffee under her red light therapy lamp, strength training at the gym, or making a batch of her signature Sunday bone broth.
Let’s dive into her daily routines, favorite wellness habits, and why she’s not here for the “What I Eat in a Day” trend.
What's the first thing you do as soon as you wake up?
Water with lemon & sea salt and journal to set my energy and intentions for the day
What does your morning routine look like?
Wake up 4-430am. Water with lemon & sea salt and sit quietly to journal to set my energy and intentions for the day.
Then I do a coffee with collagen creamer and head to my computer and turn on my red light therapy lamp and sip on my coffee while I check the emails from the night before.
I take my headset and go sit in my quiet plant-corner and listen to a guided meditation for breathwork. I then make a smoothie, get ready and head to either pilates or the gym.
When I come back I eat my meal prepped breakfast which is protein focused, take my supplements, get ready to start my work day : ) !t's the same routine everyday..
What do you typically eat for breakfast?
I have a protein smoothie before the gym/pilates. Upon my return it's usually egg bites or a prepped overnight chia oat cup.
What's one food you always have in your fridge or pantry?
Chia seeds.
What's your most used kitchen gadget/appliance?
My blender.
What's your favourite go-to recipe?
Bone broth. I make it every Sunday without fail with my leftover veggies in the fridge from the previous week. I then drink it, cook quinoa or rice in it, make soup with it, sautéed veggies in it, etc.
What does your skincare routine look like? Favourite products?
Honestly... like none existent! I know the social media trend is hard on this right now but I am not a fan of putting a ton of stuff on my face/ skin (even if it's organic). I like my skin to breathe.
If I use something I like 78 Acres tallow, witch hazel & water, and a few drops of pure jojoba oil in the winter too. I do, however, go for routine hydro water facials a few times a year which seems to give me all I need.
What's your favourite go-to supplement?
Magnesium spray for the bottoms of my feet before bed.
What's one health habit you could not live without?
My waking pad and standing desk combo! I do not know what I did before I had one. Working at the computer for long work days on calls/zooms/ making programs all add up to many hours of sitting.
I LOVE the ability to walk and work to break up sitting in my day. It's been a game changer.
What's your favourite way to move your body?
Strength Training. I really have found joy in preserving my muscle and I love seeing how much stronger I get with consistency and how that translates to energy and vitality in all areas of my life.
What's your favourite grab-and-go food?
The humble apple. Yup. I always have one in my bag! No matter how busy the day gets I make sure I've got one with me to safeguard me until meal time.
What's one health habit you're willing to spend money on?
Movement. I have learned that there are always 100 things on an entrepreneur's "to do list" that need to get done, which would previously distract me from doing the things I needed to do to be well.
About 5 years ago, I truly invested in movement. A personal trainer 3x a week, then I added other morning instructed classes.
Investing in these things meant I showed up! Knowing someone was waiting for me at the gym at 630am meant I made the time and it is now just part of my morning routine.
Now, I am constantly adding more movement classes to try which keeps things interesting and continually challenges me.
If I just did it on my own, I would have never tried and achieved 1/2 of what I have thanks to trainers/instructors. It is worth every penny!
What's one health trend you're currently loving?
Reformer Pilates. These beautiful reformer pilates studios have been all over social media the past year.
I tried my first class 6 months ago and wow! How fun! It is no joke, it's hard, but you use all of your body very intentionally. I love it!
What's one health trend you're not a fan of?
The "What I eat in a day as a nutritionist" videos are back. This trend was big in 2020 and it's back again.
I hear from so many female clients how these videos make them feel like they are a failure, like health has to look "perfect" or there is no point, and that it's unachievable so they feel overwhelmed and are lost at where to start.
We are trained to see each human being as biochemically unique people. Our role is to factor in everything going on in both their internal and external world and collaboratively create a plan that works for them and their needs.
Therefore, I am not a big fan of that trend because it says "eat like me to look like me", and we know there is no-one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition & wellness.
What's on your bedside table right now?
My magnesium spray bottle.
What does your evening routine look like?
It has been the same for years. Turn off all the lights in the house but my bedside lamp (amber sleep light bulb).
Turn on the kettle & make sleepy time tea OR tart cherry sleepy time mocktail with magnesium powder in it (depending on how my nervous system feels, I choose the hot or cold drink).
Then I take a warm cloth and water and gently wipe my face and neck. If I need tallow or a few drops of jojoba oil this is when I will use it.
Get into bed and spray the bottoms of my feet with magnesium spray. Read my book and sip my drink for about 20 min. Then I turn off the light and I am out in 2 seconds.
What does your typical work day look like?
Where/when I can, I set my week up to have focused days (ie. Monday content creation and socials, Tuesday/Friday Business Coaching Clients, Wednesday/Thursday Nutrition Coaching Clients).
I try to stick to my 10am-6pm work days when I can.
However, one of the things I love about what I do is there is always something new and my weeks are NOT always the same which keeps it interesting.
Some weeks I teach for CSNN schools, I host CSNNAA alumni events, I do corporate wellness sessions, and travel to speak at retreats.
So even my well laid out work week always gets thrown for a loop to incorporate these other opportunities in, but I like the diversity of my weeks.
What's your favourite thing about being a Nutritionist?
When a client has an "AH-HA" moment with me.
When it all clicks! It is no longer "things" to incorporate into their life but it becomes their day-to-today routine because they LOVE how a particular trick, action, or tip I have provided them makes them feel everyday and they can not imagine their life now without it.
There is NO better feeling for me than hearing their joy when they learn to work with their body instead of being at war with it.
What's your least favourite thing about being a Nutritionist?
Bookkeeping LOL- its not my thing.
What big goal do you have for your nutrition business right now?
Currently I am LOVING speaking at Women's Wellness events as it relates to cutting through all the contradiction and noise in the online spaces to empower women in returning to the basics, trusting their own body's cues, and intentionally supporting their body in kind and supportive ways.
I am noticing women are craving community and simplification of supportive habits. My goal is to lean into more of these events and speaking opportunities.
From early morning journaling to movement-focused self-care, Joanna has built a wellness routine that’s all about consistency, intention, and enjoyment.
Whether she’s walking on at her desk between client calls, savoring a homemade bone broth, or empowering women to simplify their health habits, her passion for holistic wellness shines through.
If you take one thing away from her approach, it’s this: health isn’t about rigid rules—it’s about finding what works for you and making it a part of your life in a way that feels good. Ready to embrace a more joyful, sustainable approach to wellness? Joanna’s your go-to guide.
